CELEBRATING 75 YEARS OF CHINMAYA MISSION

In 2026, we will mark a historic milestone – 75 years of Chinmaya Mission’s divine service. To honour this occasion, we are organising the largest Hanuman Havan ever held in New Zealand – a spiritual and cultural offering that brings together 5,000 devotees in an unforgettable experience of faith, devotion, and unity.

Hanuman represents selfless service, fearlessness, and devotion to truth – values Chinmaya Mission lives by. f’ This Yagna is not just a ritual, but a symbol of national and spiritual upliftment – bringing the community together in a powerful vibration of peace and purpose.

Life of Lord Hanuman

Cursed to Forget His Powers

Due to his constant mischiefs as a child, sages cursed Hanuman to forget his powers until someone reminded him. This humility helped shape his service-oriented nature.

Meeting Lord Rama

Hanuman met Lord Rama and Lakshmana while they were searching for Sita. Disguised as a Brahmin, Hanuman introduced himself and instantly became Lord Rama’s most devoted follower.

Hanuman’s Journey to Lanka

When Jambavan reminded Hanuman of his powers, he leapt across the ocean to reach Lanka. There, he met Sita in Ashoka Vatika and gave her Lord Rama’s ring to assure her rescue.

Burning of Lanka

After delivering Lord Rama’s message, Hanuman allowed himself to be captured. When his tail was set on fire, he used it to burn down large parts of Lanka, showing both his strength and devotion.

Bringing Sanjeevani Booti

During the war in Lanka, Lakshmana was mortally wounded. Hanuman was sent to bring the Sanjeevani herb from the Himalayas. Unable to identify the exact herb, he lifted the entire mountain and brought it back, saving Lakshmana.

Witnessing Rama’s Coronation

After the war, Hanuman returned with Rama to Ayodhya. He was honored during Lord Rama's coronation, and Rama declared that Hanuman would live as long as his name is chanted.

Refusal of Heaven

When offered great boons and heavenly pleasures, Hanuman humbly declined them, asking only to remain devoted to Lord Rama and serve him eternally.

Immortality and Eternal Service

Hanuman is one of the Chiranjivis (immortals). He continues to live on Earth, invisible, helping devotees of Rama and protecting righteousness.

Birth of Hanuman

Hanuman was born to Anjana (an apsara cursed to be born on Earth) and Kesari, a vanara chief. He was blessed by Lord Vayu (Wind God), which gave him immense strength and speed. His birth is considered divine and purposeful for aiding Lord Rama.

Childhood Mischiefs and Sun Incident

As a child, Hanuman mistook the Sun for a ripe fruit and leapt toward it to eat it. Indra struck him with his thunderbolt (Vajra), injuring his jaw. Lord Vayu, enraged, withdrew air from the universe. To appease him, the gods blessed Hanuman with various divine powers.
